What is MaX?
MaX is an extension for Cursor to give it a new look and extra powers.
Why MaX?
The vision and the ideas behind MaX represent a journey to bring beauty and simplicity to AI developer tools, enabling the developer to focus on the prompt and stay in the flow, without losing the grasp on how AI coding agent is progressing with the tasks in its todo list.
Software development is changing rapidly
- AI developer tools like Cursor are transforming how code is written
- "The Prompt" is now as important as the code canvas
Future of developer tools
New technologies like AI coding agents and AI developer tools will enable billions of new developers to start making apps and bring their ideas to life. This will require a new generation of developer tools, and a fundamental shift in how we approach software development.
Still ways to go
This will be a journey, with thousands of flowers blooming in the AI developer tools and AI coding agents ecosystem. Spring is coming.. The winners will be those who manage to simplify and move fast.
In AI coding tools like Cursor and others, why are there separate concepts like chat, composer, edit mode, bug finder, normal mode, agent mode, and all the rest? Which is which? AI should know, not me. Whichever AI developer tool that solves this first wins the gold medal.
- Simplify the concepts
- Emphasize the prompt
UX Progression
Tabs
What do these tabs mean? When to use which?
Mental model:
- Chat - ask questions
- Composer - request code changes
- Bug finder - robot fixes bugs

Maybe no Tabs at all?
Cursor knows when to use Ask (Chat), Code (Composer) or Fix (Bug Finder).
Replace the panel tabs with a nice logo, health indicator, and how much is spent.
The Prompt
The prompt is the new code canvas. It's where developers express their creativity. It's the birthplace of many new apps, services, solutions and things that will change the world. It's very important.
While developers craft their idea in the prompt, AI should help improve the prompt for success. Before starting to work on the task, AI should ask a few clarifying questions to make sure it's on the right track.
The Send button
How come Cursor doesn't use its own logo for the "Submit" icon? It's a perfect match.
Model and Mode Selection
Do we really need the model and mode selection visible all the time?

Let's move model selection under "..." menu, and use icon buttons:

Add the toggles for new functionality:

Turn on or off:

Response Summary
After Cursor is done, I can see how much I spent for fast queue. If I don't like the response, I can say "Again".
